I was recently asked about what I personally felt was the biggest bang for the buck turbo kit for a six-speed Supra. The answer below is what has been publised on internet forums:

Answer: You are correct the GReddy T78 is considerably less expensive then any of the other kits. I would well imagine that GReddy will figure this all out pretty soon and raise their prices, as they are almost $1000 below other vendors and the GReddy quality is outstanding.

I actually owned a car with this kit, so take your input from someone who knows. THIS KIT BY FAR, offers the biggest bang for the buck out there for 6-speed car owners, PERIOD. If you are looking for a single turbo kit to auto-x on, then look somewhere else as the power band isn't great for that type of driving. It is also too much turbo for most automatic cars, unless they are running 3200 rpm or higher stall converters.

However, if you are looking for a kit with a turbo that Jon Kuroyama (Fastrax) says is the most robust there is, then this is an excellent choice.

People always refer to LAG when trying to compare kits and this is often a word that is over-utilized to preferentially set one turbo above another. Sure the smaller turbo's build boost earlier in the power band and often times offer a broader power band than do the larger turbos, but the larger turbo's offer more top-end power. I am not the biggest proponent in the world of the GReddy kits, in fact every turbo kit I recommend to customers is based upon their driving style, expectations for power and performance as well as budget. I am simply answering a specific question on the forum about the GReddy T78 being a good value.

Let's talk about daily drivability of a GReddy T78 single turbo kit. Many people will say that a big turbo sucks to drive around town, but why do they say that? Once again this is mainly mis-information. I don't know about you, but when I drive around town my car is mainly operating under vacuum conditions and not those of boost, so it doesn't really matter if it is a T61 or T78 for daily driver duties. The difference is mainly noticed in regards to when boost is building and the power band offered. If I am going to race someone, I simply select the best gear and rpm combination to start a race. You wouldn't start a race with someone with a T61 turbo from 2000 rpms, nor would you start one with a T78 from 2500 rpms.

I can tell you one thing, and that is a T78 equipped Supra has run 9's in a 6-speed car (ARA) so the performance is there. You wanna talk about street performance and lag? Let me give you one final example. Here in Arizona we have single and large twin turbo upgraded cars all over the place. From a roll my T78 car never lost to any single turbo car in the State (that I can remember), and in fact even from a roll no T61,63,64,66 car even gained a fender on me? How can that be? Simple. Right gear and correct rpm.

The kit includes:

The includes:

T78 Turbo

Greddy Stainless Steel Header w/ 45mm runners

Type R Greddy WasteGate

80mm Downpipe

Intake pipe

Greddy AirInx 2 Intake

Intercooler piping made to fit any Greddy intercooler (also fits HKS & Blitz FMIC's, just not perfectly)

Heat Shield

All Lines, Silicone Couplers, gaskets, nuts, bolts, etc.

Comes with a stubby downpipe which can be adapted to your current stock twin turbo car downpipe (rmm, sp, tanabe) for around $100 at your local muffler shop. If you want a perfect fitment to your exhaust system, then purchase the Blitz Midpipe as an option below.

** THE GREATEST VALUE THERE IS ** Remember, at SupraStore.com we KNOW what turbo works on your car. Give us a call and we will go through your expectations for driving and set you up with the perfect kit for you.

As with any aftermarket turbo kit the possibility exists to overboost your car if you do not have the appropriate supplementary components. While many people have been successful for short periods of time running an aftermarket turbo kit on the stock fuel system, the temptation to run higher boost exists. Please make sure you have a professionally installer work on your car and that all tuning is done with a wide band oxygen sensor. We recommend the AEM EMS, aftermarket fuel system, etc.
